  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
  2. Gradually whisk in the milk.
  3. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, or until thickened.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually whisk in about 1/2 cup of the hot pudding mixture into the egg yolk mixture.
