  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss apples with sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, butter, and vanilla extract. Using your hands or a pastry cutter, work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
