Preparation Method Steps:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  4. Add ground beef and sausage to the skillet and brown. Drain any excess fat.
  5. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes, or until sauce has thickened.
  6. To make the béchamel sauce, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in Parmesan cheese.
  7. In a large baking dish, spread 1/3 cup of meat sauce. Top with 1/2 of the lasagna noodles. Spread with 1/2 of the béchamel sauce. Repeat layers.
  8. Top with mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese (optional).
  9. Bake for 30 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly. Let stand for 15 minutes before serving.
