Preparation Method Steps:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan-forced). Line a baking tray with baking paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add in the egg and mix until combined.
  4. Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk.
  6. Stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Form the dough into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  8. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of 3mm.
  9. Use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes from the dough.
  10. Place the cookies on the prepared baking tray.
  11. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  12. Allow to cool on the baking tray for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
