  1. Place the eggs in a single layer in a large saucepan. Cover them with cold water and bring to a boil over high heat.
  2. Once boiling, remove the saucepan from the heat and cover. Let the eggs sit in the hot water for 10-12 minutes, depending on the desired doneness (10 minutes for soft-boiled, 12 minutes for hard-boiled).
  3. Immediately drain the hot water and run cold water over the eggs until they are cool enough to handle.
  4. Peel the eggshells and set the eggs aside.
