Preparation Method Steps:

  1. Soak the lentils and kidney beans overnight or for at least 6 hours.
  2. Drain and rinse the lentils and beans.
  3. In a large pot or Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium heat.
  4. Add the onion and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  5. Stir in the garlic, ginger, tomato paste, cumin, coriander, red chili powder, and garam masala. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  6. Add the lentils and beans and stir to coat.
  7. Add enough water to cover the lentils and beans by about 2 inches. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour, or until the lentils and beans are tender.
  8. Stir in the heavy cream and cilantro. Cook for another 15 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.
