Preparation Method Steps:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, warm water, and honey. Let stand for 5 minutes, or until the yeast is foamy.
  2. Stir in the salt and egg yolk. Gradually add more flour, 1/4 cup (30g) at a time, until the dough forms a ball and is no longer sticky.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased 9-inch loaf pan. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Brush the top of the challah with the honey glaze.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  8. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
