Preparation Method Steps:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add the sugar and beat until well combined.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  6. Divide the batter in half. In one bowl, stir in the cocoa powder.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of the vanilla and chocolate batters into the prepared pan, alternating colors. Swirl the batters together with a knife or toothpick.
