- Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan/gas 4).
- Grease and line a 23cm (9in) square baking tin.
- In a large bowl, soak the dates in the boiling water for 30 minutes, or until softened.
- In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Gradually beat in the eggs.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and cinnamon.
- Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the soaked dates and their soaking water.
