Preparation Method Steps:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine cake mix, eggs, water, and oil. Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, then increase to medium speed and beat for 2 minutes.
  3. Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth top. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  4. Let cake cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. Once cake is cool, trim off the edges to make it rectangular. Cut cake in half lengthwise.
  6. Spread half of the chocolate frosting over one half of the cake. Top with whipped cream and chocolate chips.
  7. Place the other half of the cake on top. Frost the outside of the cake with the remaining chocolate frosting. Use a fork to create a "bark" texture.
  8. Decorate with candy canes to resemble logs.
